SMART SCREEN: Shaping Healthier Digital Habits in Adolescents
SMART SCREEN Shaping Healthier Digital Habits in Adolescents SMART SCREEN is a flagship initiative of Vincentian Social Services, implemented in collaboration with Loyola College of Social Sciences (autonomous), Thiruvananthapuram. The project addresses the growing concern of screen overuse and digital dependency among adolescents aged 11–14. Post-pandemic, screen exposure among children has surged—leading to a rise in cyber dependency, emotional detachment, academic delays, and family conflicts. Unfortunately, awareness of digital wellness remains low among students, parents, and educators. Project Objectives • Promote digital wellbeing and healthy screen use • Raise awareness on cyber safety and responsible technology habits • Identify and support children with dysfunctional screen behaviours • Build school-level structures to sustain awareness and intervention Key Components • Scientific Screening & Assessment: Using a tool developed by NIMHANS, students are assessed to identify recreational, excessive, or dysfunctional screen users. • Awareness & Education: Conducted for students, teachers, and parents, focusing on screen addiction, cyber safety, and digital hygiene. • Therapeutic Support: Children identified as high-risk receive Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), family counselling, and psychosocial education. • SMART SCREEN Cells: Each participating school forms a dedicated cell comprising students, teachers, and parents to lead and sustain digital wellbeing efforts. What Sets It Apart • Research-driven & field-tested model • Focuses on prevention, early identification, and recovery • Promotes youth-led advocacy within schools • Easily replicable and scalable for wider implementation 🌟 Impact Summary SMART SCREEN is more than a campaign—it’s a movement towards digital balance, responsible tech use, and emotional resilience. It empowers adolescents and their caregivers to navigate the digital world with awareness, confidence, and care. Prevention Drive – HPV Vaccination for a Healthier Tomorrow
Prevention Drive – HPV Vaccination for a Healthier Tomorrow “Preventive healthcare is not a luxury—it’s a right, especially for the most vulnerable.” In collaboration with KIMSHEALTH CSR, Vincentian Social Services proudly partnered in the implementation of the Prevention Drive – Protecting Futures, a large-scale initiative aimed at preventing cervical cancer through HPV vaccination and awareness. This project reflects our shared commitment to advancing preventive healthcare and reaching populations often left behind in the mainstream health narrative. Cervical cancer continues to be a major public health concern in India, especially among women from low-income communities. Despite being largely preventable, cervical cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths due to delayed diagnosis, limited awareness, and poor access to vaccination and screening. As a committed partner, Vincentian Social Services supported KIMSHEALTH CSR in mobilizing communities, coordinating outreach, and facilitating awareness alongside the vaccination drives. Key Highlights of the Initiative: • Over 2,000 doses of the HPV vaccine administered to adolescent girls and young women. • Awareness sessions conducted to educate participants and families about cervical cancer prevention and reproductive health. • The initiative was successfully implemented across Kerala and Tamil Nadu, reaching underserved regions with limited access to preventive health services. • Community-based mobilization efforts helped build trust and increase uptake, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas. Next Phase – Reaching the Most Vulnerable Building on the success of this phase, the next leg of the initiative aims to expand outreach to vulnerable populations, particularly children and young women living with HIV in Kerala, who face compounded health risks. The upcoming drives will integrate tailored strategies to address the unique challenges faced by these groups. This project exemplifies a model of impactful public health collaboration—where medical expertise, community trust, and strategic partnerships come together to protect lives. As partners, we reaffirm our dedication to ensuring that prevention is accessible, inclusive, and a cornerstone of community well-being.

Ayaloram – A New Dawn in Elderly Care
Ayaloram A New Dawn in Elderly Care As Kerala experiences a demographic shift with increasing numbers of elderly individuals left behind due to the migration of younger generations, the need for compassionate, community-based elderly care has never been more pressing. In response, Vincentian Social Services (De Care) launched Ayaloram, meaning “Next to Them”—a pioneering initiative promoting healthy aging, emotional well-being, and social inclusion among senior citizens connected to our De Care Communities. What Makes Ayaloram Unique? Unlike institutional care, Ayaloram is a vibrant therapeutic community where elders come together regularly to: • Share stories and life experiences • Build friendships and support networks • Engage in games, group activities, and outings • Receive emotional and social support • Foster intergenerational bonding with children and grandchildren A Vision for Age-Inclusive Communities Ayaloram is rooted in the belief that aging is a continuation—not a decline. It celebrates the dignity, wisdom, and value of the elderly by: • Empowering elders to care for one another • Creating spaces of belonging and purpose • Encouraging family reunification and intergenerational solidarity Through Ayaloram, we are reimagining elderly care—not as passive assistance, but as active inclusion. It is a movement toward an age-inclusive society where every elderly person is seen, heard, loved, and celebrated.
